Objectives for the meeting
The meeting seeks to advance a shared vision for South-South cooperation data as a tool for solidarity, visibility and stronger development cooperation. It will bring together countries and institutions of the Global South to review the achievements of the pilot phase, exchange experiences and shape the next generation of work on measuring South-South cooperation. It will provide a platform for policymakers, statisticians and development cooperation practitioners to discuss priorities for scaling up data and its use to enhance South-South cooperation, its impact and efficiency.
Discussions will focus on how data can be used to strengthen national policies, improve coordination and increase the visibility of South-South cooperation in global processes. Through the launch of the Steering Committee on South-South Cooperation Data and the South-South Data Fund, the meeting will lay the foundations of country-led mechanisms to guide concepts and methodologies, strengthen national capacities, expand data collection across regions and ensure that South-South cooperation is better recognized in national, regional and global development processes.
As countries prepare for discussions on sustainable development beyond 2030, strengthening evidence on South-South cooperation is increasingly important to ensure that its contributions are visible, recognized and reflected in global development discussions.
Held back to back with the Asia-Pacific Directors-General Forum for South-South and Triangular Cooperation, the meeting will connect technical work with high-level policy discussions.
