Please note that in response to the COVID-19 pandemic situation, many meetings and conferences have been postponed or are taking place virtually. Some locations have resumed limited in-person meetings which comply with local public health instructions for social distancing. Participants will receive detailed information about attending the meeting from the organizer.
(1)The General Assembly has agreed to convene the 5th UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5) from 23-27 January 2022 in Doha, Qatar.
(2) In advance of the conference, there will be preparatory meetings which will involve national, regional, and global reviews of priorities on Istanbul Programme of Action. The 1st Intergovernmental Preparatory Committee will be held from 24-28 May 2021 and the 2nd from 26-30 July 2021 at the UN Headquarters in New York.
(3)Moreover, the President of the General Assembly and the President of ECOSOC will organize a "Joint Thematic Event on Accelerated Implementation of the 2030 Agenda in LDCs to Leave No One Behind in the context of COVID-19 " on 18 June 2021 at the UN Headquarters in New York.
In order to participate in (1) the Conference, (2) Preparatory Meetings and (3) the Thematic Event, the following categories of relevant entities not in consultative status with ECOSOC must express interest here and must apply for special accreditation.
- Non-governmental organizations
- Civil society organizations
- Academic institutions
- Private sector
The Application for Special-accreditation is now open until 15 April 2021.
*Stakeholder applications will be reviewed by Member States, in accordance with the relevant GA Resolution. The name of the organization and country will be shared with the Member States, and additionally the homepage and/or the reason for participation may also be shared if requested. Accredited entities will be informed and will receive further instruction to finalize their registration, as representatives will need to register individually to secure their participation in the event.
*For the event on 18th June 2021 as well as the two Intergovernmental Preparatory Committee Meetings, stakeholder participation is expected to be virtual due to COVID-19 restrictions.
*Civil society may have the opportunity to deliver a consolidated statement on the subject matter. Should this opportunity be realized, a coordinating entity will be announced, and contact information for providing inputs will be shared with accredited entities after 9 April 2021.
