The Thai National Statistics Office (NSO) has adopted the international standard for Statistical Data and Metadata Exchange (SDMX) and launched a modern data portal, the Statistics Sharing Hub (https://stathub.nso.go.th/). This has allowed policymakers and the public to access official statistics more easily, increasing interoperability in data sharing with international organizations, and unifying data formats and definitions, reducing errors and enhancing trust.
There are, however, technical challenges in maintaining the platform and expanding the collection of datasets in the portal. The NSO sent a request letter to ESCAP outlining the need for enhancing the portal with a focus on meeting the needs of data users. Therefore, in collaboration with ESCAP, the Thai NSO aims to:
- Increase the technical capacity to manage the .Stat Suite data dissemination platform, including upgrading to the latest versions of the tool;
- Ensure the sustainability of maintaining the data platform by training technical staff on its operation of .Stat Suite;
- Restructure the content on the data portal, making it easier for users to find relevant data;
- Refresh the NSO staff skills on data modelling according to SDMX, particularly for new staff and focusing initially on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) indicators;
- Identify priority datasets and perform the data modelling and transformation in order to publish them on the portal
