In resolution 78/272 of 24 April 2024, the General Assembly decided to establish a Preparatory Commission (“the Commission”) to prepare for the entry into force of the Agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas beyond National Jurisdiction (“BBNJ Agreement”) and to prepare for the convening of the first meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Agreement. The General Assembly further decided that the Commission shall hold a three-day organizational meeting in the first half of 2024 to discuss organizational matters, including the election of the Co-Chairs and a Bureau, the dates of the meetings of the Commission and the programme of work of the Commission.
The organizational meeting is scheduled to be held from 24 to 26 June 2024 at United Nations Headquarters in New York. The meeting will be held in person and it will not be possible to follow virtually.

Dans sa résolution 78/272 du 24 avril 2024, l'Assemblée générale des Nations Unies a décidé de créer une Commission préparatoire (« la Commission ») pour préparer l'entrée en vigueur de l’Accord se rapportant à la Convention des Nations Unies sur le droit de la mer et portant sur la conservation et l’utilisation durable de la diversité biologique marine des zones ne relevant pas de la juridiction nationale (« Accord BBNJ ») et procéder aux préparatifs de la première réunion de la Conférence des Parties à l’Accord. L'Assemblée générale a en outre décidé que la Commission tiendrait une réunion d'organisation de trois jours durant le premier semestre 2024 pour examiner les questions d’organisation, dont l’élection de ses coprésidents et de son bureau, les dates de ses réunions et son programme de travail.
La réunion d'organisation se tiendra du 24 au 26 juin 2024 au Siège des Nations Unies à New York. La réunion se tiendra en personne et il ne sera pas possible de la suivre virtuellement.
