Through classroom theoretical lectures, demonstrations, working group assignments, discussions, and practical exercises students will be introduced to, provided the basic knowledge and competence to function as an:
 Occupational Safety and Health Focal Point or equivalent OSH Official at a UNHQ location and/or Country Office Location away from HQ
and/or as a:
 Occupational Safety Officer (OSO), or Occupational Safety Focal Point (OSFP) in DOS, DPO or DPPA directed, administered or supported field missions, logistics or support bases.
The students will be/ able to:
 Explain the business case and rationale for the organizational commitment to invest in Occupational Safety and Health (OSH).
 Understand the importance of addressing both the physical and psychosocial work environment by applying a comprehensive approach to occupational safety and health, including staff wellbeing.
 Display basic competency and ability to identify and determine the most obvious and apparent occupational safety and health (OSH) hazards and subsequent risks in workplaces of UN staff through the O-SRA methodology and process.
 Display competency and ability to provide recommendations on basic risk control measures to eliminate prevent or mitigate occupational safety or health (OSH) hazards and risks.
 Develop and deliver basic briefings and orientations on OSH, including wellbeing, for PKM/SPM field missions or Country Office personnel.
 Assist in both the development and the provision of occupational safety and health information to UN Personnel.
 Support and assist in the development of the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) programmes for the duty station.
 Undertake basic fact-finding missions, post an occupational safety incident.
 Function as an Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Focal Point at a UN Headquarters, DOS, DPO or DPPA directed and/ or supported field mission, support or logistic base, or an Occupational Safety & Health Focal Point in an AFP and/or Country Team Office setting.
 Understand, know and describe the general guidelines on Occupational Safety & Health Risk Management, as well as (as relevant) the DOS, DPO and DPPA Field Occupational Safety Risk Management (DPKO/DFS FOSRM) Policy, Guidelines and SOPs.
