Digital Innovation and South-South Cooperation: Driving Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES

In the dynamic Asia-Pacific region, digital innovation has become a catalyst for sustainable development, empowering countries to address challenges by enhanced connectivity, economic growth, data-driven governance, and environmental action. The COVID-19 pandemic has increased digital divides and development inequalities in the Asia-Pacific region, making South-South cooperation pivotal for facilitating the exchange of knowledge, resources, and experiences among countries for sustainable growth.

In preparation for the upcoming 80th session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific in April 2024, and aligned with its theme of “Leveraging digital innovation for sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific,” the fifth Asia-Pacific DG Forum will provide participants with an opportunity to:

(i) discuss challenges and opportunities for advancing South-South cooperation in an increasingly digital world, especially for emerging technical assistance providers;

(ii) promote replicable digital innovation solutions through South-South cooperation including a field visit;

(iii) engage in an in-person networking session and identify opportunities for partnership with diverse technical cooperation agencies to enhance sustainable development; and

(iv) showcase recent innovative development solutions and best practices through an exhibition.
