Visa: UN Officials traveling to UNGSC Brindisi on training, meeting and conferences or TDY not exceeding 90 days, regardless of their nationality, will not be required to obtain a visa prior to their departure, provided that they hold a valid UN Laissez Passer along with: 1) valid national passport (six month validity); 2) supporting document indicating the travel purpose and duration. UN Personnel on training not holding a valid UNLP must obtain a mission visa prior to undertaking travel. Visas may only be obtained in the country of residence or of origin of the applicant, from Italian Diplomatic Representations (Consulate/Embassy) or, in their absence, in other Consulates/Embassies representing the interests of the Schengen countries. Please note: Italian visas cannot be requested in Italy nor can their validity be extended in Italy. EU citizens are exempt from visa requirements.
Nationals of the following countries do not require a visa for visits up to a maximum of 90 days, for tourism, on missions, business, invitations, ought to take part in sports events, study:Albania, Andorra, Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Brazil, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Dominica, East Timor, El Salvador, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), Guatemala, Grenada, Honduras, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, Kiribati, Malaysia, Macao, Marshall, Mauritius, Mexico, Micronesia, Monaco, Montenegro, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Northern Marianas, Palau, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Samoa, Serbia, Seychelles, Singapore, Solomon, South Korea, St. Lucia, St. Vincent e Granadine, Taiwan, Tonga, Trinidad e Tobago, Tuvalu, United Arab Emirates, United States, Uruguay, Vanatu, Venezuela. Citizens of Taiwan are exempt from visa obligation only if the passport has the identity card number included. Citizens of Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia are exempt from visa obligation only if the passport contains biometric data. This does not apply to citizens of Serbia holding passports issued by the Serbian Coordination Directorate (“Koordinaciona uprava”). Nationals of San Marino, the Holy See and Switzerland do not require a visas in any case.
Upon entering Italy, border Authorities will require supporting documentation indicating the travel purpose and duration of stay.

Transportation: Upon arrival participants should arrange for transportation from the airport to the hotel on their own. In order not to incur in any problems using private car companies, participants are strongly recommended to use regularly registered taxi companies(i.e. ensure that you take a taxi clearly marked as "taxi" and which is parked in the taxi parking area). The cost of the taxi should range from €20.00 to €25.00 (depending on the time, being the night fare slightly more expensive, plus €1 for extra and bulky luggage). Taxi fee is applicable per trip and not per person. Ensure that you obtain a proper receipt with the exact amount that you are requested to pay, that the receipt is numbered and that it clearly indicates starting and destination points. Report to the nearest police office or UNGSC Security Officer (ph. + 39 0831 056003) any problem you might encounter or any ambiguous behaviour you might notice. Transportation to and from the training site is provided by UNLB/GSC Shuttle bus on the scheduled event days only. Departure time will be 08:00 from the meeting point outside the main Train Station and close by Palazzo Virgilio Hotel, 5 minutes walking distance from any other hotel in the town centre. Afternoon pick up from UNLB/GSC's exit gate will be at 17:00 hrs (except special arrangements).
Meals: Lunch is available at GSC Cafeteria - Building 94 (take away food and drinks) as well as at GSC Canteen - Building 228 from 12:00 to 14:00 and cost varies from approximately € 4.50 to € 11.90 per meal. It usually includes a choice of first courses, pasta or rice with various sauces, a second course to choose between chicken, veal, cheese, pork, fish and eggs and a side dish of vegetables, salad, potatoes, cold meat, fresh fruit, water & bread. Vegetarian options also available.
Snacks, Internet and Telephones: Snacks and beverages are also available in the CLC main building #94 cafeteria (opening hours: 8.00 - 16.00). Wi-fi/internet access and telephones for intermission calls are available for your use as well.
General Information: Weather: November to March the average temperatures go from 6º Celsius (42ºFarenheit) to 16º C. with occasional drops down to 0º Celsius (32ºFarenheit). June to September average temperatures stay around 30º C. (85ºFarenheit) with occasional peaks up to 42º (107ºFarenheit).
Shopping: Shops are open from 08:30 to 13:00 and from 17:00 to 20:30. Large department stores, located at 3 and 10 km outside Brindisi, are open 7 days a week from 09:00 to 21:00.
Banking: Banks in town are open from 08:30 to 13:00 and from 14:30 to 15:45.
