The President of the General Assembly of the United Nations will convene a High-Level Meeting on HIV/AIDS from 8 to 10 June 2021, in the General Assembly Hall at the UN Headquarters, New York, pursuant to General Assembly resolution 75/260.
PARTICIPATION AT THE HIGH-LEVEL MEETING
In accordance with General Assembly resolution 75/260 , representatives of non-governmental organizations in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council* and non-governmental members of the Programme Coordinating Board of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS** will be invited to participate in the high-level meeting, as appropriate.

Furthermore, the President of the General Assembly will draw up a list of representatives of other relevant non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, academic institutions and the private sector who may participate in the high-level meeting, including its panel discussions, taking into account the principles of transparency and equitable geographical representation, with due regard for gender parity. The President of the General Assembly will submit the proposed list to Member States for their consideration, in accordance with General Assembly resolution 75/260.
Relevant non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, academic institutions and the private sector entities may apply for special accreditation by following the REGISTER NOW link at the bottom of this page.
The application for special-accreditation is now open until 25 April 2021.
*Stakeholder applications will be reviewed by Member States in accordance with GA Resolution 75/260. The name of the organization and country will be shared with the Member States, and, additionally, the homepage and/or the reason for participation may also be shared, if requested.
Please note: the practical arrangements for participation and the format of the special session will be decided by the President of the General Assembly in due course on the basis of an assessment of the COVID-19 related health conditions, and this information will be available on the website of the President of the General Assembly.
SPEAKER APPLICATION
(1) Opening segment
In accordance with General Assembly resolution 75/260 that sets out the organizational arrangements for this meeting, one person who is openly living with HIV will be invited to speak at the opening plenary segment of the High-Level Meeting. (The other opening plenary speakers will be the President of the UN General Assembly, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Executive Director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, and an eminent person actively engaged in the response to HIV/AIDS.)
(2) Plenary meeting
The General Assembly also decided that representatives of non-governmental organizations in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council, civil society organizations and the private sector – one from each grouping – to be selected during the interactive multi-stakeholder hearing, may also be included in the list of speakers for the plenary meetings of the high-level meeting, in consultation with the President of the General Assembly.
* Please note that in order to be considered for a speaker for the plenary meetings, your organization also needs to participate at the Interactive multi-stakeholder hearing to be held from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., via interprefy platform on Friday, 23 April 2021. (3) Thematic panel discussions
There will be up to five thematic panel discussions, which shall be held consecutively with the general debate. Stakeholders will be invited to speak at each panel along with representatives of Governments and other participants. Accredited organizations may also have the opportunity to ask questions, time permitting. More information on the panels and opportunities for the submission of questions will be shared to the accredited organizations.
