Portugal and Kenya, as Co-Hosts of the UN Ocean Conference, would like to inform Member States and all stakeholders that consultations with the United Nations are ongoing with a view to postponing the 2020 United Nations Ocean Conference to a later date, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Updates on this will be made available as soon as possible.
The co-hosts would like to reaffirm their unwavering commitment to the conservation and sustainable use of our Ocean, as well as their readiness to resume the logistical preparations as soon as possible. Meanwhile, substantial preparatory work should continue as feasible in the present circumstances.
This is the event registration website for representatives of organizations that fall into the following categories:
- Organizations that have received special accreditation by the General Assembly to participate in the 2020 UN Ocean Conference. First list of organizations specially accredited can be found here.
- Organizations that received special accreditation to attend any of the following past conferences (please click on the links for details):
- The World Summit on Sustainable Development;
- The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development;
- The 2017 high-level United Nations Conference to Support the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development;
- The intergovernmental conference on an internationally legally binding instrument under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity of areas beyond national jurisdiction;
- Previous United Nations conferences on sustainable development of small island developing States, held in Barbados, Mauritius and Samoa.
Deadline for registration: REGISTRATION IS SUSPENDED.
Delegation size: Please note that registration is limited to a maximum of five (5) representatives per organization.
Minimum age: the minimum age to attend the 2020 UN Ocean Conference is 18 years old.
Travel, Visa and Subsistence: All arrangements for travel, including visas, accommodation, and transportation, are the responsibility of participants.

ECOSOC accredited organizations whose statuses have been suspended by the UN NGO Committee will not be allowed to request registration to the 2020 UN Ocean Conference, irrespective of previous accreditation to past UN Conferences.
