Access to the United Nations Headquarters
Pre-approved participants who have have received a confirmation letter will be able to pick-up their Temporary Badge with Photo at the Pass and ID office as early as Friday 17 January. The Temporary Badge with Photo will be valid only from 20 January to 29 January.
Kindly be reminded that representatives from ECOSOC accredited NGOs need not register/show confirmation letter. Instead, they should follow the regular procedure for Annual/Temporary UN Grounds Passes.

Collection of United Nations grounds passes (or Non-Photo ID, Event Ticket) takes place in the UN Pass & ID office which is located at 320 East 45th street (between First and Second Avenue), outside of UN premises.

Obtaining a United Nations grounds pass
Kindly have your printed registration approval email and passport (or government-issued photo ID if coming from within the U.S.) ready before entering the UN Pass & ID office located at 320 East 45th street. Without these documents, you will not be able to obtain your United Nations grounds pass or temporary pass (non-photo ID, event ticket)!
Each representative should have received a registration approval email when their registration was approved in Indico. The title of the email reads “Registration approval for 2020 Regular Session, Committee on NGOs”. Please see a sample here:
If you have not received your registration approval email in your email inbox, please check your SPAM/junk folder. If you did not receive a registration approval email, please contact the support email from the event page on Indico as soon as possible. A printed copy of the registration approval email is required to collect your grounds pass. There is no printing on-site! Electronic versions (e.g. on a phone or computer) will not be accepted.
Please be reminded that the United Nations will not make arrangements or pay for any costs in connection with travel, visa or accommodation. Such arrangements and costs are the exclusive responsibility of participants. The United Nations does not charge any fees for participation to its meetings.
Accessing the UN premises with your UN Grounds Pass or Non-Photo ID
Once in possession of your UN Grounds Pass, you will be able to enter the UN premises. The visitor’s entrance of is located across 1st Avenue on 46th Street.
All visitors to United Nations Headquarters must go through security screening (airport-style). To speed up the process, please remove hats, sunglasses, belts, scarves, jackets, etc. prior to screening. Please note that cell phone use and photography in the screening facility are not permitted.
What (Not) to Bring
The following items are strictly prohibited in the Pass and ID office and on the UN Premises:
- any liquid, including water
- cans and bottles
- food or beverages
- backpacks and bags larger than 14" (35 cm) wide x 13" (33 cm) high x 4" (10 cm) deep
- scooters, skateboards, bicycles
- aerosol containers and non-aerosol spray (prescriptions for medical needs are permitted)
- any pointed object other than pens and pencils (i.e., knives, knitting needles, letter openers, razors, etc.)
- electric stun guns, martial arts weapons or devices
- guns, replica guns, ammunition, fireworks, mace or pepper spray
