BACKGROUND
This year, the high-level 2022 United Nations Conference to Support the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development shall be convened in Lisbon, from 27 June to 1 July 2022, pursuant to General Assembly resolution 73/292 and decision 75/578. The overarching theme of the Conference is “Scaling up ocean action based on science and innovation for the implementation of Goal 14: Stocktaking, partnerships and solutions”.
The Conference will be broadcast live on UN WebTV.
Please note: practical arrangements for participation will be communicated in due course on the webpages of the President of the General Assembly and the Conference.
NOT YET ACCREDITED? APPLY FOR SPECIAL ACCREDITATION FIRST
Relevant non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, academic institutions, the scientific community, the private sector and philanthropic organizations whose work is relevant to the Conference that are not in consultative status with ECOSOC, or that have not been accredited to any of the Conferences and Summits listed below must apply for special accreditation here by 28 February 2022 to participate in the UN Ocean Conference.

- Previous United Nations conferences on sustainable development of small island developing States, held in Barbados, Mauritius and Samoa
- Organizations that have received special accreditation by the General Assembly to the UN Ocean Conference and the preparatory meeting. List of organizations specially accredited on the first round can be found here and the list for the second round here.
Stakeholder special-accreditation is available only for organizations. Individuals may not apply for special-accreditation.
Organizations approved for participation will be informed and their representatives need to register individually for the UN Ocean Conference.
*Stakeholder applications will be reviewed by Member States, by applying, mutatis mutandis, the provisions set forth in paragraph 16 of annex II to GA resolution 73/292 . The name of the organization and country will be shared with the Member States, and, additionally, the homepage and/or the reason for participation may also be shared, if requested.
