Portrait of a (Working) Mother

Organized by the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Lithuania and other international organizations in Geneva

About the exhibition:

The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Lithuania wishes to organise a photo exhibition, taken by photographer Marina Cavazza and Dr. Eglė Kačkutė.

The photo exhibition will explore issues of visual and narrative representations of motherhood, maternal identity, gender equality in the globalized world, career and family life balance in the context of expatriation. The exhibition puts a cultural and artistic focus on the experience of highly educated professional migrant mothers and their families who live and mother in Geneva. It consists of 27 panels that each, apart from introductory and concluding panels, combine an artistic-quality photographic portrait and a short interview.

In her foreword to the forthcoming book based on the project Professor Dalia Leinartė, Chairperson of the UN Committee on Elimination of Discrimination against Women, writes: “Balancing work and family life is one of the fundamental conditions for achieving economic security and stability, career advancement and high quality contemporary life for both men and women”.

The event would also highlight gender parity as an essential part of Human Rights, Labor, and International Gender Champions agenda.

About the artist:

Photographer Marina Cavazza and Dr. Eglė Kačkutė started working together in 2013 on an artistic project that they would develop trough a multidisciplinary approach, combining photographic portraiture and academic research on gender.

In five years, the authors involved 27 participants in the project asking them to visualize their situation in that specific moment in life and to provide individual narratives about their private and professional lives.
