In accordance with operative paragraph 4(7) of the resolution WHA68.7 (2015) that endorsed the global action plan on antimicrobial resistance and in response to the related request by the United Nations General Assembly in its political declaration on antimicrobial resistance (adopted in resolution A/RES/71/3 (2016), the World Health Organization (WHO) has the honour to invite the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to the second informal consultation of Member States and relevant partners on developing the Tripartite led global framework for development and stewardship to combat antimicrobial resistance, which will take place at WHO headquarters, in the Executive Board Room, from 1 to 2 October 2018. The second informal consultation is being held in accordance with the mandate to the Director-General to finalize, in consultation with Member States and relevant partners, a global development and stewardship framework. The framework aims to support the development, control, distribution and appropriate use of new antimicrobial medicines, diagnostic tools, vaccines and other interventions, while preserving existing antimicrobial medicines, and promoting affordable access to existing and new antimicrobial medicines and diagnostic tools, taking into account the needs of all countries, in line with the global action plan on antimicrobial resistance. The outcome of the consultation will provide input for the finalization of the global framework by FAO, OIE and WHO as per the United Nations high-level political declaration. The consultation will be open to Member States, FAO and OIE tripartite partners and non-state actors in official relations with WHO on 1 October 2018. This will be followed by a closed session of Member States and relevant partners on 2 October 2018. WHO has the pleasure to request you to nominate representatives specialized in antimicrobial resistance for the above mentioned informal consultation.
