Uganda has taken important steps to strengthen its climate finance architecture through the adoption of the National Green Taxonomy (NGT), the National Climate Finance Strategy 2025–2030, and the Guidelines for Mainstreaming Climate Action in the Financial Sector. These frameworks provide the foundation for directing investment towards environmentally sustainable activities and supporting Uganda's climate-resilient and low-emission development pathway. As attention shifts from framework development to implementation, stakeholders across government, regulators, financial institutions, the private sector, and development partners face a common challenge: translating policy into practical action. Achieving the objectives of Uganda's updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and mobilizing the significant investment required for implementation will depend on strengthening institutional readiness, building market capacity, developing investment-ready projects, and establishing effective coordination mechanisms. In this regard, the Uganda Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (Climate Finance Unit), in partnership with the UN Climate Change Regional Collaboration Centre for East and Southern Africa (RCC EASA) and other partners, will convene a national webinar on 13 October 2026 to support the operationalization of Uganda's National Green Taxonomy (NGT).
The webinar aims to bring together key stakeholders across the financing ecosystem, including government institutions, regulatory agencies, financial institutions, private-sector actors, project developers and development partners, to build a shared understanding of how the NGT can be implemented effectively. It seeks to establish a coordinated, country-owned implementation agenda and strengthen collaboration among institutions responsible for mobilizing and directing sustainable finance.
