About the event
UNESCO convenes the Open Science for Innovation Conference to examine how open science partnerships can support the 2021 UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science. Five years since its adoption, commitment among Member States is broad but implementation remains uneven, and the evidence base for what open science partnerships deliver remains thin. The Conference is organised in collaboration with the Open Innovation in Science Centre at Aarhus University and Conscience, with the support of McGill University and Miller International Knowledge.
Hosted at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris (Room XI) on Thursday, 12 November 2026, in the context of the twenty-fifth anniversary of World Science Day for Peace and Development, the Conference is built around four plenary sessions:
- Open science, partnerships and intellectual property
- Open science partnerships in practice
- Open science, data and research security
- The role of government in encouraging open science partnerships
