Exercises are an integral part of developing and strengthening the On-Site Inspection (OSI) element of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) verification regime. Integrated exercises provide an opportunity to apply OSI techniques, procedures, systems and operational arrangements in a realistic exercise environment, while building the experience and capabilities of participants.
As part of the OSI Exercise Programme, the Preparatory Technical Secretariat (PTS) will conduct the Integrated Field Exercise 2026 (IFE26) in the Erongo Region of Namibia, supported by an Operations Support Centre in Austria, in October–November 2026.
IFE26 will bring together the human, technical, procedural, operational and logistical elements of an OSI and provide an integrated test of key aspects of the OSI regime. It will be the largest exercise of its kind conducted by the PTS to date.
Further information on IFE26 is available on the dedicated CTBTO website: www.ctbto.org/ife26
