From Needs to Action: Readiness and Finance Pathways for LDCs, SIDS
Background
The ESCAP-hosted forum, organized in collaboration with the UNFCCC, will bring together country practitioners, regional institutions, climate-finance experts, development banks, funds, investors and implementation partners to examine a practical question: How can countries move more effectively from identified climate needs and priorities, through readiness and project development, to finance and implementation? Drawing on experience from several initiatives, partners and funds, the discussion will focus particularly on LDCs and SIDS, as well as other countries facing severe constraints.
The event will:
- Examine the practical institutional and capacity barriers that arise before and during readiness;
Showcase the latest research Rethinking Readiness and guide Practical Guide to Readiness; - Share practical experience from selected country/project examples;
- Explore how readiness can connect more effectively with project preparation, investment promotion and finance;
- Engage regional institutions, climate funds, MDBs, bilateral partners and private/institutional finance actors;
- Identify practical opportunities for follow-up and partnership.
The emphasis throughout will be on using and connecting existing mechanisms more effectively, rather than creating additional processes or institutions.
