Further to the notification shared last week regarding the opportunity to apply to participate in the Regular Process Workshop to be held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from 28 September to 2 October 2026, in support of the implementation of the fourth cycle of the Regular Process for Global Reporting and Assessment of the State of the Marine Environment, we are pleased to inform you that a complementary activity is being planned for UNNF Alumni from island States in the Indian Ocean region.
This activity will be organized in conjunction with the Regular Process Workshop and will provide an opportunity for selected alumni to:
- Actively participate in the workshop
- Engage in discussions between the UNNF Team and Alumni on the implementation of the outcomes of the Island States Ocean Summit, held in Tokyo in June 2026
- Explore how the UNNF Alumni Network can support the Nippon Foundation Island States Initiative, through our capacity-building programmes.
For the purposes of participation in the Regular Process Workshop, we are seeking alumni who are actively working in one or more of the following areas:
- Blue economy and finance
- Gender and the ocean
- Indigenous, traditional and local knowledge (ITLK)
Please note that participants will be expected to present a national case study on the science-policy interface. We are also seeking two participants who can present a regional perspective on the science-policy interface.
We will be able to support the participation of 10 UNNF Alumni from island States in the Indian Ocean region through this activity, in addition to any alumni who may be selected through the application process outlined in the notification for the Regular Process Workshop.
