The Environmental Management (EM) Course – COE Renewable Energy Project Planners and Managers – Training of Trainers (TOT) is designed to strengthen the capacity of troop- and police-contributing countries (T/PCCs) to plan, implement, manage, and support the deployment of Contingent-Owned Equipment (COE) renewable energy systems in United Nations peacekeeping operations. The course responds to the growing need to reduce dependence on diesel-powered electricity generation in field missions and to enhance operational resilience, environmental sustainability, and energy security through the adoption of renewable energy solutions.
Through scenario-based learning, case studies, and practical planning exercises, participants will develop the knowledge and skills required to manage the full lifecycle of COE renewable energy projects, including project development, business case preparation, COE reimbursement mechanisms, solar resource assessment, system design, procurement considerations, commissioning, operation and maintenance, health and safety, and performance monitoring. The course is tailored for senior planners and engineers who play key roles in national decision-making and deployment processes for peacekeeping operations.
As a Training of Trainers programme, the course also equips participants with instructional and facilitation skills to enable the transfer of knowledge within their national military and police institutions. Upon completion, participants will be able to support and advocate for renewable energy deployment in peacekeeping environments and deliver similar training programmes in their home countries.
This training is exclusively intended for uniformed personnel who have been officially nominated by their respective Member States.
