Join the UN Library & Archives Geneva for the launch of The Cambridge Handbook of the History of the League of Nations and International Law.

Bringing together historians and legal scholars, this innovative volume is the first to draw on extensive archival research to explore how the League of Nations shaped the development of international law and the foundations of modern global governance.

The book explores the aftermath of the First World War and the negotiations surrounding the 1919 Versailles Treaty, when world leaders sought to establish a new international order. Although influential figures such as Woodrow Wilson and David Lloyd George viewed the ideal of “peace through law” with skepticism, the creation of the League of Nations nevertheless provided an unprecedented multilateral framework through which international law could develop and operate.

Through twenty-one chapters, the Handbook offers fresh perspectives on the promises, challenges and legacy of international law and legal techniques in the building of the first system of multilateral international order.

We look forward to welcoming you to this engaging discussion with the book's editors and contributors, followed by an interactive Q&A session with the audience.

Coffee will be served following the session.
