UNIDIR, Switzerland and Pakistan will jointly organize, on Wednesday 17 June 2026, a breakfast briefing to mark the pre-launch of the Institute’s Centre of Excellence on AI, Peace and Security ahead of its formal launch, to be held later in the evening.
Against a backdrop of rapid transformation that artificial intelligence brings to the global peace and security landscape, UNIDIR will launch the Centre as a permanent platform to consolidate knowledge, connect stakeholders, and sustain momentum between high-level summits and multilateral processes. Designed to ensure continuity and coherence across processes and initiatives, foster inclusive global engagement, and provide practical and evidence-based policy guidance, resources and capacity-building, the Centre is established as global efforts to govern AI in peace and security contexts are at a critical juncture.
