In an era where climate change is no longer a distant threat but a present reality reshaping lives and landscapes, the outcomes of international climate negotiations hold the power to redefine resilience for vulnerable regions. The 30th Conference of the Parties (COP 30) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), held in Belém, Brazil, from November 10-21, 2025, brought together over 56,000 delegates including world leaders, scientists, activists, and negotiators from nearly 200 countries. For years, progress on climate change has been slow to materialize, with most of the attention during COP negotiations focused on efforts to reduce emissions. COP 30 was different with adaptation more in the spotlight with the Brazilian Presidency framing it as an “adaptation COP.”
This year's summit marked a pivotal moment for adaptation, emphasizing strategies to help societies withstand and recover from climate impacts. With Eastern and Southern Africa facing escalating risks from droughts, floods, and food insecurity, COP 30's adaptation agenda offered transformative insights to drive resilient development.
This webinar unpacks the key adaptation outcomes from COP30, where negotiations fell short, and what lies ahead for COP31, and what their implication for adaptation planning and implementation efforts in the region. Understanding these outcomes is essential for local stakeholders, policymakers, and communities to effectively plan their responses and implement necessary adaptations. Join the UNFCCC-RCC EAS Africa as we unpack the COP30 outcomes on adaptation.
