Demographic shifts, especially low fertility, ageing and migration in UNECE countries will lead to significant system changes. These demographic shifts have implications on economies and social support systems, health, education, as well as sustainability of infrastructure and services, including at sub-national level. Changing composition of populations will require substantial investments and timely planning to adapt to the new population structure. We are welcoming presentations on potential scenarios and the impact the structure and composition of the population and socio-economic impact and sustainability of current social and health systems as well as on planned projects to create awareness or to identify upcoming challenges governments and societies have to face and on adapting to demographic changes.

The focus is on the programme countries in the UNECE region (Western Balkans, Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia) but examples and analyses can come from the whole UNECE region or even globally. It is organized in the context of the Regional Coordination Group on Data and Statistics for Europe and Central Asia.
