On 25 September 2025, the United Nations will host a landmark high-level multi-stakeholder informal meeting in the Trusteeship Council Chamber at UN Headquarters in New York. This event marks the official launch of the Global Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence Governance, a new and inclusive platform established through General Assembly resolution 79/325. It represents a pivotal moment in international cooperation on AI, bringing together governments, scientists, the tech community, private sector, and civil society to collectively shape the future of AI governance.
The meeting will build on the momentum of the Global Digital Compact and the Pact for the Future, reaffirming the UN’s central role as a convener of inclusive and accountable dialogue. Through a dynamic format—including opening remarks from high-level leaders, a plenary segment featuring diverse stakeholder interventions, and a youth-led closing summary—the event will explore key questions around building agile, responsive, and inclusive international AI governance. Participants will engage on topics such as risk mitigation, innovation, human rights, and capacity-building across sectors and regions.
This is the first time the UN General Assembly convenes such a broad and diverse group under one roof to address the global implications of AI. The meeting will serve as a springboard for sustained international cooperation, grounded in shared norms and tangible outcomes. It will also spotlight the importance of bridging divides and ensuring that all countries—especially those currently underrepresented in global AI governance—have a voice in shaping the future of this transformative technology.
We invite all interested civil society stakeholders, including non-governmental organizations, academic institutions and private sector entities to register and participate in this historic event. Registration is open through Indico until 17 September 2025.
