Background:
The Collaboratory is advancing efforts to integrate AI and automation into epidemiological pipelines to support rapid, actionable insights during public health emergencies. Large language models (LLMs) are increasingly used to streamline workflows and accelerate analysis, offering significant opportunities for innovation. At the same time, their application in public health requires careful attention to transparency, reliability, and responsible practices. By convening diverse expertise, the Collaboratory aims to ensure that AI adoption strengthens decision-making while maintaining trust and rigor in epidemiological models and pipelines.
Summary:
This workshop will bring together experts in AI, epidemiological modeling and pipelining, ethics and governance to assess opportunities, risks and challenges in applying LLMs to epidemiological workflows. Discussions will inform a white paper outlining responsible use, key opportunities, and considerations to guide the future adoption of AI in public health intelligence.
