Welcome to WOC #15 course. We're excited to support your learning

 Course Aim:
To prepare female military staff officers for deployment in UN peacekeeping operations as ICT staff officers or experts in a Force or Sector Headquarters (J6/G6/S6), and police officers as advisors to police commissioners on ICT matters. The course provides the necessary knowledge and skills in command, control, communications operations, planning systems, and relevant UN policies, regulations, and standard operating procedures to equip participants for deployment.

Learners will be able to:

  • Explain how different communication systems and technologies support UN PKOs.
  • Articulate key aspects of international legal frameworks applicable to UN peacekeeping operations, including human rights, humanitarian, criminal, and refugee law, as well as UN policies and mission-specific law.
  • Effectively coordinate logistics, execute crisis response, and plan military operations within the framework of UN peacekeeping missions.
  • Comprehensively articulate the formation, structure, and operational frameworks of the United Nations and its peacekeeping mechanisms, including the roles and functions of the UN Secretariat, Mission Headquarters (MHQ), Force Headquarters (FHQ), and the selection process for Military Observers (MILOBS) and Staff Officers (SO).

Methodology / Course Structure:
The course will be conducted using lectures, presentations, demonstrations, and practical exercises. These will take place in both a classroom and simulation environment, as well as real-world operational areas on-site, including the Sat Farm, Aircraft Hangars, and Antenna Equipment Rooms.

There will be a range of instructors from different member states and missions to expose students to diverse perspectives and experiences. The course is designed to be as engaging as possible, ensuring at least one activity outside the classroom each day.

Each student must successfully achieve the enabling learning objectives to pass the course. Additionally, students must complete the written confirmation exam.
