The goal of the course is to train, mentor and prepare women police officers to join the United Nations Police (UNPOL) Command Cadre who fulfil all of the requirements for leadership positions as Heads and Deputy Heads of Police Components as well as strategic middle management posts in UN peace operations as well as with UN Agencies, Funds and Programmes, and other international organisations.
The target audience of the course are senior women police officers who fulfil the following minimum criteria required for UNPOL P-4 grade position:
- Minimum police rank of Lieutenant Colonel or equivalent.
- Minim of nine (9) years police experience after completing initial police training or seven (7) years police experience with a Master’s degree.
- Previous demonstrable police command experience.
- Minimum educational qualification of a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred).
- Easily read, speak, understand and write in English.
- Graduation from a certified police academy or similar law enforcement training institution.
The participants to the course who pass the assessment tests will be considered for membership in the UNPOL Women Command Cadre. The Cadre is a talent pipeline aimed to fast track the nomination of senior women police officers to the Senior Police Leadership Roster (SPLR) and for job vacancies of senior-level seconded positions and contracted professional posts. When nominated, the members of the Cadre will still need to undergo a selection and recruitment processes of to become part of the SPLR and/or for job vacancies they apply or their country nominates them for.
