| Event abstract | The 4th International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4) is a unique opportunity to influence international financial policies and move towards a new regulatory framework in the global financial architecture. It will be a space to redefine the global financial system to promote inclusive and sustainable development. In this context, the Church organisations that are present in Spain and have a presence in the Global South are actively involved, contributing with proposals that reflect the need for economic justice and global solidarity. The FFD4 is an ideal space for the voices of social organisations, affected communities and Church actors to be heard, reminding us that there can be no real development without economic, social and ecological justice, to make visible the economic and environmental injustices that affect the Global South and to demand structural changes in the international financial model. Through an inter-sectoral dialogue between key actors from civil society, academia, and representatives of international organisations, relevant issues related to fair financing for development, as well as the reform of economic structures to put human lives at the centre, will be addressed. It is key to recognise the historical ecological debt incurred by rich countries and to promote the search for sustainable and just solutions for the suspension or cancellation of external debt, as a way of correcting the structural inequalities that perpetuate poverty and environmental damage in the countries of the Global South. |
