Similar to previous editions, the 12th Workshop on Voluntary National Reviews in the Arab Region (online, 3-5 March 2025) will provide a platform for dialogue and peer learning on VNR issues among Arab countries. As the second workshop to be held in the 2025 VNR cycle, it will give an opportunity to the Arab countries presenting their VNR at the 2025 HLPF to inform about their preparations to date, the approaches they are adopting to address any challenges, and the way forward.
The thematic focus of the workshop will be on youth and future generations as one of the five chapters of the Pact for the Future and the subject of one of its annexes – the Declaration on Future Generations. While the aim to safeguard the needs and interests of future generations is not new and is in fact at the very core of the concept of sustainable development, specific actions and steps that governments and other stakeholders must take to account for future generations are still elusive.
توفّر ورشة العمل الإقليمية الثانية عشرة كسابقاتها منصة للحوار والتعلم من الأقران حول المواضيع المرتبطة بالاستعراضات الوطنية الطوعية في البلدان العربية. وحيث أن هذه الورشة هي الثانية ضمن دورة عام 2025، ستتيح الفرصة للبلدان العربية التي تعمل على إعداد استعراضها للإبلاغ عن تحضيراتها، والمقاربات الجديدة التي اعتمدتها لمواجهة التحديات، والخطوات المستقبلية.
وتتمحور هذه الورشة حول موضوع الشباب والأجيال القادمة باعتباره فصلاً من فصول ميثاق المستقبل الخمسة ومحط تركيز أحد ملحقيه - إعلان الأجيال القادمة. وفي حين أن الهدف المتمثل في حماية احتياجات ومصالح الأجيال القادمة ليس بجديد، بل هو في صميم تعريف التنمية المستدامة، فإن الإجراءات والخطوات المحددة التي يجدر بالحكومات وأصحاب المصلحة الآخرين اتخاذها لتحقيق هذا الهدف لا تزال غير واضحة.
