AFRO Regional GIS Summit 2025
The WHO Polio Eradication Program (PEP) established a Regional GIS Centre in 2017 with the support of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) with the aim of strengthening surveillance, immunization delivery and capacity building of key actors in the field. This technology has since been adopted by countries beyond polio and immunization in the Africa region for use in strengthening and monitoring Universal Health Coverage and responding to public health emergencies.
The PEP DIM unit plans to hold the third GIS summit . The theme for the 2025 summit is “Partnering to End Polio through the use of Innovative Approaches to reach Every Last Child”. The summit will provide a great opportunity for us to review the status of GIS implementation support for polio and other health programs; discuss the challenges encountered at regional, IST and country levels and proffer recommendations.
