The WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence in collaboration with the WHO Global Influenza Program (GIP) are hosting a meeting on coordinating public health intelligence from sentinel, non-sentinel, and other formal and informal sources of information to improve the detection of and response to influenza and other respiratory viruses to be held from 24 to 25 July 2024 at the WHO Pandemic Hub in Berlin, Germany.
This meeting will bring together experts and key stakeholders from each of the three pilot Member States (MS) across the African Region to discuss relevant strategies and foster collaboration and exchange of best practices to improve the detection and response to influenza and other respiratory viruses.
The objectives are to:
1. Provide the opportunity for Member States to share outputs and recommendations from the landscape analysis and the national Workshops in Tanzania, Togo and South Africa regarding the enhancement of the coordination of sentinel, non-sentinel, and other formal and information sources to improve the detection of and response to respiratory viruses.
2. Facilitate the exchange of lessons learned and best practices on implementing PHI for respiratory pathogens and collaborative surveillance approaches.
3. Develop a meeting report compiling best practices, tools and lessons learned across multiple member states on the coordination of sentinel systems and other formal and informal information sources including other complementary initiatives for influenza and other respiratory viruses.
