The Core Pre-deployment Training Materials (CPTM) contain essential knowledge required by all peacekeeping personnel – military, police and civilians – to function effectively in a UN peacekeeping operation. As such, the CPTM provides a shared understanding of the basic principles, guidelines and policies of UN peacekeeping.  The CPTM is required for use both by Member States in the pre-deployment training of uniformed personnel and by DPO in the pre-deployment training of civilian personnel. The last version of the CPTM was published in 2017 and  the Integrated Training Service (ITS) in the Department of Peace Operations (DPO) is currently reviewing and updating the materials in collaboration with subject matter experts throughout the Secretariat.  At this stage, ITS has developed 34 draft lessons and supporting materials divided into three modules. A Validation Seminar will be organized in Brindisi 21-31 May 2024 to review and test the draft materials.  Participants in the seminar will be representatives of troop- and police-contributing countries as well as UN trainers. Rollout of the updated 2024 CPTM is planned to start in August 2024.
