The humanitarian situation in the Republic of Haiti and in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) are at critical junctures with both countries facing significant challenges to their food security. The latest Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) figures for Haiti indicate that approximately 4.97 million people, half of the population, are acutely food insecure (IPC Phase 3 or above), while the latest estimates for the DRC point to 25.4 million people facing such levels of acute food insecurity.
Amid the context of overlapping dynamics including surges in violence, climate hazards, significant numbers of displaced people, and disrupted agricultural pathways, urgent action is needed both to address acute food insecurity and to restore livelihoods and strengthen resilience, ensuring a needs-based, coordinated, and effective response.
During the briefing, FAO and WFP will provide in-depth context and an overview of activities and programmes in Haiti and in the DRC to support food security and agricultural livelihoods.
