The global observance of the Desertification and Drought Day 2024 will be hosted by the Government of Germany on 17 June at the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn.
The global observance event will also mark the 30th anniversary of UNCCD, will bring together world leaders, youth and prominent personalities from academia, civil society, sports and entertainment to showcase a strong ambition to be united for land, ahead of the largest-ever UN conference on land and drought in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in December 2024 (UNCCD COP16).
Together with the Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the City of Bonn, that has been home to the UNCCD Secretariat since 1999, a series of public-facing events will be organised.
The global theme of Desertification and Drought Day 2024, “United for land. Our Legacy. Our Future,” emphasizes the transformative power of sustainable land management as a key solution to today’s challenges – a blueprint to a better future on land for future generations. The theme is a clarion call to a recharged global action on land restoration and drought resilience.
