The Asia-Pacific Regional Commemoration will bring together Governments, businesses, organizations of persons with disabilities, United Nations entities and other stakeholders to discuss promoting disability-inclusive business and the broader inclusion of persons with disabilities in every aspect of society.

Disability-inclusive business opens a new horizon to accelerate the effective implementation of disability-inclusive development. Business has a pivotal role to play in accelerating disability-inclusive development through practising the inclusion and ensuring the rights of persons with disabilities in all aspects of the business value chain by engaging persons with disabilities as leaders, employees, consumers, suppliers/distributors, subject experts and valued stakeholders.

The Commemoration will include a panel and plenary discussion focused on promoting disability-inclusive business. ESCAP will also launch the publication Disability at a Glance 2023: Catalysts of Change: Disability Inclusion in Business in Asia and the Pacific.

Recognizing the importance of media and film in changing the perceptions related to persons with disabilities, several of the short films from the Focus on Ability short film festival, a yearly festival created by NOVA Employment, will be screened in partnership with the Australian Embassy. All of the films are focused on the theme of abilities or star an actor with disabilities, highlighting persons with disabilities as rights holders.
