On 5 September 2023, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights issued a guidance note on ‘How to effectively implement the right to participate in public affairs: A spotlight on people of African descent.’
This high-level panel will bring visibility to the new note and highlight the specific challenges faced by people of African descent in this regard. Panelists will explore synergies between combating systemic racism against people of African descent and the importance of their meaningful, inclusive, and safe participation in public affairs.
Participation will be in-person as well via Zoom with interpretation available in all official UN languages and passive Portuguese. Please note the event has been moved from Room XIX to Room XVII.
