The FAO Liaison Office in Geneva and FAO Inclusive Rural Transformation and Gender Equality Division (ESP), cordially invites you to join the FAO in Geneva “Deep dive and discussion on the Status of Rural Women in Agrifood Systems", taking place on Wednesday 31 May 2023, 15:00-16:30 CEST. This will be a hybrid event hosted in the H Building of the Palais des Nations in Geneva, and online, aiming to highlight the central role of women in agrifood systems, and the ongoing challenges they face. The event will also present new data and evidence while exploring game-changing solutions.

Considering that a majority of women in the poorest countries are engaged in agrifood systems, the well-being, income, and ability to provide for their families are intricately linked to the fairness and inclusivity of these systems. Addressing gender disparities within agrifood systems is, therefore, essential for achieving gender equality. Conversely, achieving gender equality is indispensable for transforming agrifood systems, as well as combating climate change, enhancing health, and promoting economic growth.

This hybrid event will provide a valuable opportunity to reinforce our collective efforts to embed gender equality and women's empowerment in investments and policy frameworks. The opening remarks will be delivered by Maximo Torero, FAO Chief Economist, and Lauren Phillips, Deputy Director of the FAO Inclusive Rural Transformation and Gender Equality Division, will share an overview of the recent findings from the Status of Rural Women in Agrifood Systems.
