This event, which seeks to recognize and commemorate the tireless efforts of women human rights defenders around the world, is taking place on the occasion of International Women Human Rights Defenders Day and during the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, which this year calls on everyone to stand in solidarity with women’s rights activists and to support feminist movements around the world to resist the rollback of women’s rights under the banner of, ‘UNITE! Activism to End Violence against Women & Girls’.

It will bring together Member States, UN entities, Special Procedures mandate holders and women human rights defenders to the table to launch the expert recommendations and achieve the following:

1) Highlight the high risks of rights violations, including gender-based violence, experienced by women human rights defenders in all their diversity
2) Discuss the ways that the expert recommendations can be used as a tool to strengthen the human rights protections of women human rights defenders at risk in migration contexts
