Description

The Group of Experts on Gas helps UNECE member States deliver on key political commitments, such as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement on climate change. Its ninth session on 24-25 March will discuss implementation of its 2022-2023 work plan and other issues such as the growing share of natural gas in the total primary energy supply and its economic, social, and environmental implications. Speakers and panelists will present on some of the following topics:

  • Gas and Sustainable Development Goals
  • Gas and post-COVID-19 recovery
  • Methane management in the gas sector
  • Carbon neutrality through synergies between gas(es) and renewable electricity
  • Sustainable hydrogen: An innovative solution for carbon neutrality
  • Improving urban air quality
  • Use of gas in transportation – challenges and opportunities
  • Carbon capture, utilisation, and storage: The role of gas infrastructure
  • Promoting sustainable and clean production, distribution, and consumption of gas and LNG in the ECE region.

Please note that the day before the session -- on 23 March -- two workshops will be held – on methane management and on hydrogen. Agendas and registration details will be sent separately.
