The President of the General Assembly of the United Nations will convene the first International Migration Review Forum (IMRF) from Tuesday, 10 May 2022 to Friday, 13 May 2022, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, pursuant to General Assembly resolution 73/326.
PARTICIPATION
As per resolution 73/326, non-governmental organizations that are in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council, as well as all stakeholders that were accredited to the preparatory process of the intergovernmental consultations of the the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) or that were accredited to participate in the Intergovernmental Conference to Adopt the GCM, are invited to register with the Secretariat in order to participate in the forum.
*If you are a representative of the ECOSOC accredited NGO, please contact the NGO Branch of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs for registration that is expected to open in March 2022.
*If you are a representative of a stakeholder accredited in the context of GCM, please look at the UN Migration Network website. Information on registration will be posted there when the process opens. The list of stakeholders that were accredited in the context of the GCM and who do not need to request special-accreditation again is available on the website above.
Furthermore, the President of the General Assembly will draw up a list of other representatives of relevant non-governmental organizations, academic, scientific and knowledge-based institutions, the private sector, trade unions, faith-based, migrant and youth organizations, diaspora communities and other relevant stakeholders, who may attend and participate in the Forum, taking into account the principles of transparency and equitable geographical representation, with due regard to the meaningful participation of women. The President of the General Assembly will submit the proposed list to Member States for their consideration, in accordance with resolution 73/326.
Relevant non-governmental organizations, academic, scientific, and knowledge-based institutions, the private sector, trade unions, faith-based, migrant and youth organizations, diaspora communities and other relevant stakeholders may apply for special accreditation by following the REGISTER NOW link at the bottom of this page.
The application for special accreditation is now open until 5.p.m. EST, on Wednesday, 26 January 2022.
*Stakeholder application will be reviewed by Member States in accordance with resolution 73/326.The name of the organization and country will be shared with the Member States, and, additionally, the homepage and/or the reason for participation may also be shared, if requested.
Format of the Forum
The IMRF shall serve as the primary intergovernmental global platform for Member States to discuss and share progress on the implementation of all aspects of GCM, including as it relates to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and with the participation of all relevant stakeholders.
The Forum will consist of four interactive multi-stakeholder round tables during the first day and the morning of the second day, followed by a policy debate in the afternoon of the second day, at the beginning of which the technical summaries of the round tables will be presented. The plenary will be held on 12-13 May 2022.
The IMRF will be preceded by a one-day informal interactive multi-stakeholder hearing, to be held on Monday, 9 May 2022. According to resolution 73/326, a representative of civil society will be invited to present a summary of the hearing during the opening segment of the plenary.
The proceedings of the Forum and the Hearing will be webcast live on UN Web TV.
