
Cultural Heritage and Tradition for Sustainable Trade and Development
The Mission of Philippines to the United Nations Office in partnership with UNCTAD a are proud to invite you to the exhibition "Cultural Heritag and Tradition for Sustainable Trade and Development" - Monday 7 October 2019 from 3 to 6 p.m.
The proposed event aims to shed light on how cultural heritage and tradition can provide opportunities for value addition and product differentiation that can generate important economic gains domestically and internationally. The session will explore “how cooperation at the multi-layered levels - involving local producers and businesses, municipal and national government agencies and international agencies - could enhance synergistic linkages among traditional knowledge/local heritage, inclusive economic growth and sustainable development.
The event will consist of a panel discussion on the above-mentioned topic, followed by an exhibition on piña-seda cloth embroidery and weaving.
Using a unique production method originating from traditional folk craft, the Philippines has developed a piña-seda cloth that is considered one of the finest fabrics in the world. Following ancestral methods, women and now also men are engaged in weaving and embroidery, particularly in the north and central Philippines. The exhibition will showcase this ancestral creative industry.
