[POSTPONED] The 2020 celebration of the International Day of Forests will focus on Forests and Biodiversity. Forests are home to approximately 80 per cent of all life on land. The plethora of life forms found in forests – micro-organisms, plans, and animals – constitute forest biodiversity and often impact each other directly and indirectly. Plants and forests offer food and shelter to animals and insects, while carnivore predators control herbivore populations that may otherwise cause damage to forests. During the 2020 celebrations of the International Day of Forests on Forests and Biodiversity at the Palais des Nations, visitors will have the chance to explore the connection between different species that constitute forest biodiversity. The photo exhibition “Forest biodiversity: too precious to lose” captures the diversity of forest animals that can be found in the Russian Federation. The formal opening of the exhibition is on Monday, 23 March. If you are interested in learning even more about forests, we invite you to join us for expert presentations and a screening of the Our Planet documentary episode “Forests”, organized in collaboration with the Geneva Environment Network of the UN Environment Programme on Monday, 23 March in the Kazakh room at the Palais des Nations, from 1pm to 3pm. The episode examines the fragile interdependence that exists between forests and their diverse residents, ranging from bald eagles, to hunting dogs and Siberian tigers.
