The World Health Organization (WHO) International Classification of Diseases (ICD) is the foundation for identifying health trends and statistics globally, and the international standard for reporting diseases and health conditions. It is also the diagnostic classification standard for all clinical and research purposes. The ICD-11 was released in June 2018 and will be submitted to the seventy-second World Health Assembly in May 2019. Following endorsement, Member States will start reporting using ICD-11 in January 2022.
In advance of the endorsement of the ICD-11, and publication of the World report on vision, WHO would like to analyse the pertinence of the current description of vision impairment, as well as consider options to change it.
