IGM of the 19th Session of the Committee on Transport
The 19th session of the Committee on Transport and Logistics will be held in Beirut, Lebanon during 26-28 November 2018. The meeting will review the progress in ESCWA’s transport related activities since the 18th session of the committee which was held in Beirut during 20-21 December 2017. The meeting will also review several papers related to transport and logistics in the Arab region including: 1) the implementation of activities related to transport and logistics in the ESCWA work programme, and the level of implementation of the recommendations of the 18th session, as well as technical cooperation activities in transport; 2) Progress report on GIS for the transport network in the Arab countries; 3) Logistics Performance Index in the Arab countries; 4) Maritime transport: Does liberalization matter?; 5) Assessing Arab Economic Integration Report: Trade in services as a driver of growth and development.
Additionally, a workshop on Road safety Management in the Arab Countries will be organized in cooperation with UN Special Envoy on Road Safety.
Workshop on Road Safety
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals have set a strong impetus for us to increase and enhance our efforts to improve the road safety situation, especially at the national and regional levels. Following earlier efforts to galvanize increased action in the Arab region, we have the pleasure of inviting you to the Regional Workshop on Road Safety Management in Arab Countries, under the auspices of ESCWA and the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety, on 27 and 28 November 2018 during the margins of the 19th ESCWA Intergovernmental Meeting on Transport and Logistics, from 26 to 28 November 2018 in the UN House, Beirut, Lebanon .
The workshop, which is being held in cooperation with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe and the World Bank, will address issues of road safety management in line with United Nations guidelines and international best practices. The workshop will gather high-ranked officials from the Ministries of Transport and Ministries of Interior from Arab States, who will be invited to actively discuss the status of Road Safety Management and data in their countries, and agree on actionable recommendations to improve road safety in the region.
