Description
The Polio Data Safety and Monitoring Board (DSMB) convenes once a year to discuss the adverse events and safety signals related to all the clinical trials conducted / overseen by WHO Polio. The role of the DSMB is to assure scientific and ethical integrity of clinical trials, including undertaking protocol review, monitoring clinical and laboratory outcomes, assessing all data, reviewing all the reports of study monitors, reviewing clinical trial reports, undertaking safety monitoring (considering in detail all reported adverse events) and determining the setting of stopping rules on the grounds of safety. The DSMB reviews the outcomes of the clinical trials, taking into consideration protocol violations, and deaths when compared to the prevalent infant mortality rate. This meeting provides the annual opportunity for the DSMB to meet and be updated, and provide their scientific and technical input related to all clinical trials conducted / overseen by WHO Polio.
