Madam, Sir,

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the event “A River Named Atlantic” organised by the Permanent Missions of Brazil, Angola, Benin, and Nigeria, originally scheduled for Tuesday 26 June 2018, has been postponed.

We will provide additional information as soon as possible. We regret any inconvenience this has caused to your busy schedule.

A River Named Atlantic

Lead by Permanent Mission of Brazil to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva with Permanent Mission of Angola, Benin and Nigeria

to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva.

This event is a partnership with the missions of Brazil, Angola, Benin, and Nigeria and aims at celebrating the common cultural background of populations on both sides of the south Atlantic Ocean, mainly in culinary, music and body expression.

Many people and whole families originally from Africa who once were enslaved and lived in Brazil conquered their freedom and went back to the eastern shore of the Atlantic Ocean. They took with them a transformed culture associated with Brazil. A variety of cultural elements, then, has survived and remained as a common heritage of our peoples, beyond national boundaries.

There will be a cocktail with “acarajé” and “akara”, a traditional food among Brazilians of African descent and populations from Nigeria and Benin. There will also be exciting percussion and dance preformances.
