Organized by the United Nations, Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in association with Bernard Gachet.
UNESCO, in association with the Swiss architect Bernard Gachet, presents an exhibition paying tribute to monuments around the world. This cultural project, displaying 156 sketches of monuments from the five continents, reflects the heritage, memory and cultural conservation of many nations. The sketches aim to underline both the natural and human made problems the planet is facing.
The exhibition will be organized around four main themes:
- destruction, catastrophes and abandonment
- reconstruction and conservation
- reconversion and second life
- life and nothing else
The exhibition seeks to show that monuments, conceived by human kind, are worth preserving, whatever their size and use, construction, scholarly purpose or vernacular architecture. They reflect civilizations past and present, and through stone, brick, wood, steel, and concrete, hold memory and testimony.
