 e first step (Tier 1) in UNODA’s multi-tiered training programme for Qua
 lified Experts nominated to the United Nations Secretary-General’s Mecha
 nism for the Investigation of Alleged Use of Chemical\, Biological and Tox
 in Weapons (UNSGM). The course focuses on providing nominated experts with
  a common basis for operation that would enable them\, should they be depl
 oyed\, to work as a United Nations team within a UN mission investigating 
 an alleged use of biological weapons. The course will familiarize particip
 ants with the structure and functions of the UNSGM\, the process for initi
 ating and conducting investigations\, and the technical procedures and req
 uirements involved. The course will also build essential practical compete
 ncies required for UNSGM missions\, including mission planning and reporti
 ng\, sample and evidence collection and handling\, information gathering a
