DESCRIPTION:The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA)\, 
 in collaboration with the National Convenor for Food Systems Transformatio
 n in Mauritania\, the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD
 )\, and the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub\, are organizing the capacity
 -building workshop “Advancing Coherent Climate and Food Systems Action i
 n Mauritania”\, to be held on 13-14 October 2026 in Nouakchott. The work
 shop will bring together government officials from food systems\, climate\
 , environment\, agriculture\, water\, and related sectors\, alongside deve
 lopment partners and technical experts\, to strengthen coordination and pr
 omote more integrated action across these interlinked agendas.\nThis works
 hop is part of the project “Bridging the Climate-Food Nexus: Coherent Cl
 imate Action and Food System Transformation for Resilient Arab Least Devel
 oped Countries” (2025–2028)\, which aims to support Arab LDCs in align
 ing food systems transformation processes with national climate action pla
 ns. The project was officially launched in Amman\, Jordan\, on 3–4 Decem
 ber 2025 under the title “Climate and Food: Building Resilient Food Syst
 ems in Arab LDCs”\, and convened food systems focal points and climate r
 epresentatives from Djibouti\, Mauritania\, Somalia\, Sudan\, and Yemen\, 
 alongside regional and international experts. The project is also aligned 
 with the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub’s Convergence Initiative and b
 uilds on these efforts to strengthen climate-resilient food systems in Ara
 b LDCs.\nThe workshop in Mauritania forms part of the series of national c
 apacity-building workshops planned under the project between 2026 and 2028
 . It builds on the country’s ongoing efforts to strengthen convergence b
 etween food systems transformation and climate action\, including the deve
 lopment of its Food Systems Transformation Pathway\, the updated Nationall
 y Determined Contributions\, and the national Convergence Roadmap. Through
  this engagement\, the workshop aims to strengthen national capacities\, f
 oster cross-sectoral coordination\, and support Mauritania in translating 
 these priorities into coherent and sustained climate and food systems acti
 on throughout the project’s implementation period.\n\nhttps://indico.un.
