 Bringing together historians and legal scholars\, this innovative volume i
 s the first to draw on extensive archival research to explore how the Leag
 ue of Nations shaped the development of international law and the foundati
 ons of modern global governance. \n\n\n \n\n\nThe book explores the af
 termath of the First World War and the negotiations surrounding the 1919 V
 ersailles Treaty\, when world leaders sought to establish a new internat
 ional order. Although influential figures such as Woodrow Wilson and David
  Lloyd George viewed the ideal of “peace through law” with skepticism\
 , the creation of the League of Nations nevertheless provided an unprecede
 nted multilateral framework through which international law could develop 
 and operate. \n\n\n \n\n\nThrough twenty-one chapters\, the Handbook of
